Producer
Vikram Bhatt, born on 27 January 1969, is an Indian director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He is renowned for his work in the Indian film industry, particularly for directing the Raaz film series, a successful Indian horror franchise produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. He is also known for directing the film Ghulam (1999), starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherji, which was produced by Mukesh Bhatt. Both films earned him nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
Vikram Bhatt was previously associated with ASA Productions and Enterprises, where he served as the creative head until his resignation in 2014.
He comes from a film background, being the grandson of Vijay Bhatt, a pioneer of the Indian film industry, and the son of cinematographer Pravin Bhatt.
Bhatt began his career at the age of 14 in 1982, working as an assistant to director Mukul Anand on the film Kanoon Kya Karega. He later worked as the chief assistant to Anand on the cult classic Agneepath. He gained further experience by assisting directors Shekhar Kapur and Mahesh Bhatt on various projects, including Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Junoon.
Bhatt made his directorial debut with the film Jaanam, produced by Mukesh Bhatt. However, his initial films did not perform well at the box office. He achieved success with his film Fareb, and subsequently directed a string of successful films such as Ghulam, Kasoor, Raaz, and Awara Paagal Deewana. After Awara Paagal Deewana, he faced some setbacks with films like Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Deewane Huye Paagal, and Ankahee.
In 2008, Bhatt made a comeback in the horror genre and delivered three successful films at the box office: 1920, Shaapit, and Haunted – 3D. In 2010, he introduced stereoscopic 3D technology to Indian cinema with his film Haunted – 3D, which became the highest-grossing Hindi horror film of all time at that point, earning Rs. 270 million at the box office.
