Vipul Amrutlal Shah, commonly known as Vipul Shah, is a film producer and director in the Hindi film industry. He started his career in the entertainment industry with Gujarati theatre and was involved in directing several successful Gujarati dramas. In the late 1990s, he made his directorial debut with the Gujarati film "Dariya Chhoru" (Children of the Ocean), featuring JD Majethia in the lead role.
Shah then ventured into Hindi cinema and directed six films as of 2010, with four of them starring Akshay Kumar. His first Hindi film was "Aankhen," which was based on his Gujarati play "Aandhlo Pato" (Blind Fold). It was one of the biggest hits of 2002. He further gained recognition and acclaim with his film "Waqt: The Race Against Time" in 2005, which was also based on a Gujarati play titled "Aavjo Vhala Phari Malishu" (Goodbye dear, will meet again). The film was highly successful at the box office.
Shah's next two films, "Namastey London" and "Singh Is Kinng," performed exceptionally well and became box office hits. "Singh Is Kinng" even broke the previous opening records in Bollywood. In 2009, he directed "London Dreams," featuring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Asin Thottumkal, which had an average performance at the box office. However, his 2010 release, "Action Replay," starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai, did not receive a favorable response from the audience.
In March 2011, Vipul Shah announced his plan to make a sequel to his 2007 film "Namastey London.
