Neeraj Pandey, born on December 17, 1973, is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in Hindi cinema. He gained recognition with his directorial debut, "A Wednesday!" which received widespread acclaim from critics and won several awards. His second film, "Special 26" (2013), was followed by "Baby" (2015), which received critical acclaim and achieved great commercial success. Pandey also served as a producer for the film "Rustom" (2016). In 2016, he directed the biopic "M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story" based on the life of Indian cricketer M.S. Dhoni, which was both a critical and commercial success.
Apart from filmmaking, Pandey is also a writer and has authored a novel titled "Ghalib Danger" in 2013. In 2016, his production house, Friday Filmworks, entered into a joint venture with Reliance Entertainment and formed Plan C Studios. He has also directed a web short film titled "Ouch" featuring Manoj Bajpayee and Pooja Chopra, which was nominated for the Filmfare Short Film Award in 2017. Pandey was a co-producer for the film "Toilet: Ek Prem Katha." His next release, "Aiyaary," starring Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee, received mixed reviews and did not perform well at the box office, marking his first unsuccessful venture.
In March 2020, Neeraj Pandey presented and directed his first web series, "Special Ops," which was released on Hotstar. The eight-episode series, produced by Friday Storytellers, the digital arm of Friday Filmworks, received high praise from critics.
