Smita Vallurupalli, known simply as Smita, is an Indian pop singer, playback singer, and actress who has worked in various Indian film industries including Tollywood, Bollywood, Kollywood, and Kannada cinema. She was born on September 4, 1980.
Smita's talent as a singer was recognized when she participated in the talent show "Padutha Theeyaga" on the Telugu television channel ETV in 1997. She began pursuing playback singing opportunities and sang a few songs for films. However, her parents advised her to focus on pop singing, as her style was more suited for that genre. As a result, she released her first album "Hai Rabba" in 2000, which marked the beginning of her career as a pop artist.
Following the success of her debut album, Smita released several blockbuster albums in Telugu and Tamil, including the popular album "Masaka Masaka." Many of her Telugu club mix albums sold over one million copies, establishing her as a prominent pop artist in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
In addition to her pop career, Smita has sung over seventy-five playback songs in Telugu films and has collaborated with leading music composers from the south. She won a Filmfare award for Best Playback Singer in Telugu for the song "Evaraina Chusuntara" from the film "Anukokunda Oka Roju," composed by M.M. Keeravani in 2005.
Smita's versatility as a singer is evident in her recent album titled "SMITA," which features tracks composed by the hit duo Sajid-Wajid and directed and choreographed by Bosco-Caesar. The album includes energetic dance numbers like "Mahi Ve" and "Aaja Nachle," as well as seductive and romantic ballads like "Ouch," "Zara Zara," "Saawariya," and "Dholna."
Apart from her music career, Smita also ventured into other areas. She established ICandy Entertainments Pvt Ltd, a production house that produced the popular show "Tata Indicom-Dance With Me" for Maa TV. She has also released an album called "Ishana - The Path of the Divine," which was created as an offering to Sadhguru and Isha Foundation. The proceeds from the album's sales support Isha Foundation's work in education, environment, and rural initiatives.
Smita's contributions to the music industry and her involvement in various projects have earned her recognition and popularity in the Indian entertainment industry.
