Priyadarshini Ram, also known as Priyadharshi Ram or simply Priyadarshini, is a Singaporean-Indian playback singer. She has made significant contributions to the Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi film industries, having performed in over 180 movies. Additionally, she has sung more than 800 songs for devotional and private albums in 10 different languages.
Priyadarshini began her career as a playback singer with a duet song alongside Hariharan for the Tamil film "Kadhal Dot Com," which was released in 2004. She made her debut in Kannada films with the movie "Ajju," featuring music by Rajesh Ramanath, and also sang in Telugu cinema for D Imman. She has also lent her vocals to background vocals in the Hindi film "Garam Masala," starring Akshay Kumar. In 2008, she had a duet with S. P. Balasubrahmanyam in the Kannada movie "Rocky."
Throughout her career, Priyadarshini has collaborated with esteemed music directors such as Bharadwaj, D. Imman, Hamsalekha, Mano Murthy, Gurukiran, R. P. Patnaik, Rajesh Ramnath, K. Kalyan, S. A. Rajkumar, Mahesh Mahadev, M. N. Krupakar, Ravish, and others. She has also recorded jingles and albums.
In terms of education, Priyadarshini holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, a Master's degree in Music from the University of Madras, and a PhD in film music from the University of Mysore.
Born in Chennai, Priyadarshini grew up in Doha, Qatar, and Singapore. Her father, Ram, is a Chemical Engineer at Tecnicas Reunidas, and her mother is Sumathi. She showed an interest in music from a young age and started learning music at the age of three. By the age of four, she began participating in singing competitions hosted by radio stations and TV channels in Chennai and Singapore. During her high school years at Yishun Junior College, she won the championship trophy in the tertiary category of Singapore Radio Oli 96.8FM's Singing competition.
