Nikhita Gandhi, born on October 1, 1991, is an Indian playback singer known for her work in Indian films across multiple languages. She has lent her voice to Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, and Kannada film projects.
Nikhita gained recognition as the voice behind Deepika Padukone in the title track "Raabta" from the film of the same name. She has also delivered hit songs like "Ullu ka Pattha," a duet with Arijit Singh from the film "Jagga Jasoos." Her vocal contributions can be heard in films such as "Sachin: A Billion Dreams," "Chef," "Jab Harry Met Sejal," "Ittefaq," and "Cockpit," where she collaborated with Atif Aslam on the Bengali song "Mithe Alo." Other popular songs she has sung include "Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe" and "Poster Lagwa Do."
Nikhita Gandhi comes from a mixed Bengali and Punjabi background and grew up in Kolkata. She attended La Martiniere for Girls, Kolkata, for her schooling. She later moved to Chennai in 2010 to pursue a degree in dentistry. As a student of A.R. Rahman's K.M. College of Music and Technology, she had the opportunity to work with Rahman during an Indo-German exchange program. This led to her auditioning individually for a commercial project called "Qyuki" with Shekhar Kapur.
In 2012, Nikhita released a Bengali album titled "Kotha," featuring re-arranged Nazrul Geeti, songs written by renowned poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Her breakthrough came with the song "Ladio" from Shankar's film "I" in 2015. Composed by A.R. Rahman, she recorded the song in Hindi, Telugu, and Hindi versions, earning critical acclaim.
Apart from her film projects, Nikhita has formed a band and has performed in Kerala and Kolkata. Her band consists of Sajith Sathya, Jerard Felix, Godfrey Immanuel, and Joshua Gopal.
Nikhita Gandhi's talent and versatility have been recognized with awards and nominations. She won the Best Female Playback Singer award at the Zee Cine Awards 2018 for the title track of "Raabta." She received nominations for Best Playback Singer (Female) at the 63rd Filmfare Awards for the song "Ghar" from "Jab Harry Met Sejal" and at the 3rd Filmfare Awards East for the Bengali song "Tomra Ekhono Ki" from "Meghnad Badh Rahasya." Her song "Qaafirana" from the film "Kedarnath" became a hit, and she won the Nestle Kitkat Sony Mix Audience Music Award for Best Duet for the song along with Arijit Singh. She has also released her own singles, including "Ek Do Teen" and "Madari," featuring Vishal Dadlani
