Neeti Mohan is an Indian singer known for her work in Hindi and Tamil films, as well as other regional languages like Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, and English. She was born in Delhi on November 18, 1979. Neeti gained initial recognition by participating in the reality show "Popstars" on Channel V, where she emerged as one of the winners and became a member of the pop group Aasma, formed with other winners. She rose to prominence after recording the song "Ishq Wala Love" for the film "Student of the Year" (2012), which led to her winning the Filmfare R. D. Burman Award for New Music Talent. She was also nominated for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Jiya Re" from "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" (2012).
Neeti Mohan's rendition of six jazz tracks in the soundtrack album of Amit Trivedi's "Bombay Velvet" (2015) received positive reviews from music critics. She received her second nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Sau Aasmaan" from the film "Baar Baar Dekho" (2016). In addition to her singing career, Neeti Mohan has been involved in various charities and social causes.
Born to P. V. Ramankutty Varier and M. T. Vijayalakshmy, Neeti Mohan is the eldest of four sisters, including Shakti Mohan, Mukti Mohan, and Kriti Mohan. She began learning music at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya at the age of four and participated in various music contests during her school days. She was part of the school band and represented India as a Youth Exchange Programme cadet. Neeti continued her music training at the Bhatkhande Music Institute and received further training in Mumbai. She also studied dancing, including Bharata Natyam and Kathak.
Neeti Mohan gained early exposure to the music industry through her participation in "Popstars" and went on to collaborate with renowned artists like A. R. Rahman. She was part of the winning team "Shankar's Rockstars" on the Star Plus show "Music Ka Maha Muqqabla" in 2009. In terms of her personal life, Neeti Mohan married actor Nihaar Pandya on February 15, 2019, and the couple announced their first pregnancy on their second wedding anniversary in 2021.
In an interview, Neeti Mohan shared an interesting anecdote about how A. R. Rahman discovered her. Her sister Shakti was performing as a dancer at an A. R. Rahman show, and Neeti expressed her desire to speak to Rahman. Although she didn't get the chance to talk to him then, six months later, she ended up singing with him. Neeti had met Rahman's manager previously, and when she learned about auditions for Rahman's USA tour, she recorded a vocal audition and was eventually selected for the tour.
