PlayBack Singer Female
Madhushree, originally named Sujata Bhattacharya, is an Indian playback singer known for her work in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, and Telugu films. She was born on November 2, 1969, in Kolkata, India. Coming from a musically inclined family, Madhushree received her initial training in classical and western styles of music from her parents, Amarendranath and Parbati Bhattacharya, who were also her first teachers. She further pursued her musical education at Rabindra Bharati University, where she completed her master's degree. While her father aspired for her to become a classical singer, Madhushree's true passion lay in becoming a playback singer.
During her early years, Madhushree worked for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and was deputed to teach classical music in Suriname. However, her ultimate goal was to establish a career in the playback singing industry, which led her to move to Mumbai.
In her pursuit of a breakthrough, Madhushree recorded her music on CDs and sent them to prominent individuals in Bollywood. One of these CDs reached Javed Akhtar, a renowned lyricist, who recommended her for opportunities. This led to her playback singing debut in Rajesh Roshan's film "Moksha." Following her debut, she went on to lend her voice to songs in movies such as "Yuva," "Aayitha Ezhuthu," "Kal Ho Naa Ho," and "Kuch Naa Kaho." Madhushree has had a fruitful collaboration with the acclaimed composer A. R. Rahman, singing memorable songs like "Tu Bin Bataye," "In Lamhon Ke Daaman Me," and "Ham Hain Ispal Yahan."
In the film "Tehzeeb," composed by A. R. Rahman, Madhushree sang three songs and was credited as Sujata Bhattacharya. She gained recognition for her rendition of "Kabhi Neem Neem" from the movie "Yuva" (2004) and received the prestigious Sony Stardust Award for Best Female Sensation (Playback Singer). Madhushree's repertoire also includes the song "In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein" from the film "Jodhaa Akbar," composed by A. R. Rahman, and "Soja Zara" from "Bahubali 2 – The Conclusion." Her exceptional contributions to the music industry have earned her accolades, including the Lions Gold Award for All-Time Film Versatile Playback Singer at the 20th edition of the ceremony held at Bhaidas Hall in Mumbai.
Madhushree has also showcased her talent as a judge on the reality singing competition "Zee Bangla Saregamapa" in 2017, alongside Shantanu Moitra, Kumar Sanu, Jeet Gannguli, and Palak Muchhal.
