Kavita Krishnamurthy, also known as Kavita Subramaniam, is a renowned Indian playback and classical singer. She has contributed her melodious voice to songs in various Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, and many more.
Kavita Krishnamurthy has garnered immense recognition for her talent and versatility. She has received four Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Awards, winning consecutively from 1995 to 1997. In 2005, she was honored with the prestigious Padmashri award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to Indian music.
Born into a Tamil Iyer family in New Delhi, Kavita began her musical training under the guidance of her aunt, Protima Bhattacharya, who introduced her to Rabindra Sangeet. She further honed her skills in Hindustani classical music under the guidance of Balram Puri, a renowned classical singer. At the young age of eight, Kavita won a gold medal at a music competition, and she continued to excel, earning multiple medals in the Inter-Ministry Classical Competition in New Delhi during the mid-1960s.
In 1999, Kavita Krishnamurthy married the noted violinist L. Subramaniam, and the couple currently resides in Bengaluru.
Kavita's talent and dedication to music have earned her numerous accolades and honors. Her melodious renditions and emotive performances continue to enchant audiences. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was awarded a Doctorate (Honoris Causa) by Jain University in Bangalore in 2015.
