Mahathi S, commonly known as Mahathi, is a Carnatic musician and playback singer known for her work in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi film industries.
Mahathi comes from a family with a rich musical background. Her father, Thiruvaiyaru P. Sekar, is a vocalist and a disciple of Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. Her mother, Smt. Vasanthi Sekar, is a flautist and a grand disciple of renowned musicians such as Sri. T. R. Mahalingam, Sri. N. Ramani, and Smt. Kesi. Mahathi also has a musical lineage as the great-granddaughter of the esteemed violinist Sangeetha Kalanidhi Pazhamaneri Swaminatha Iyer.
She received her initial musical training from her parents and Deepa Gayatri of Trivandrum. Later, when her family moved to Trichur, she received guidance from Sri. Mangad K. Natesan. For advanced musical training, Mahathi became a disciple of Padma Bhushan "Sangeetha Kalanidhi" Madurai Shri. T. N. Seshagopalan. In 1994, she was awarded the Central Government Scholarship for Carnatic Music.
Mahathi made her entry into playback singing in 2003 with the duet "Iyyaiyyo Pudichirukku" alongside Hariharan. The song was composed by Harris Jayaraj for the film "Saamy." In 2008, she received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Naeraa Varattuma" from the movie "Nenje Nenje."
Throughout her career, Mahathi has contributed her melodious voice to numerous film songs and has garnered recognition for her talent and versatility in multiple languages
