Suniel Shetty, born Sunil V. Shetty on August 11, 1961, is an Indian actor, film producer, television personality, and entrepreneur. He is primarily active in Hindi films but has also worked in Tamil, Telugu, English, Marathi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. With a career spanning almost 30 years, he has acted in over 100 films.
Suniel Shetty is the owner of the production house Popcorn Entertainment Private Limited and has produced films such as "Khel – No Ordinary Game," "Rakht," and "Bhagam Bhag" under the banner of Popcorn Motion Pictures.
He made his debut in Hindi films in 1992 at the age of 31 with "Balwaan" opposite Divya Bharti. The film helped establish him as an action hero in Bollywood. He went on to play the protagonist in various successful movies throughout the 1990s, including "Waqt Hamara Hai," "Pehchaan," "Dilwale," "Mohra," "Gopi Kishan," "Hum Hain Bemisaal," "Surakshaa," "Raghuveer," "Takkar," "Krishna," "Sapoot," "Shastra," "Rakshak," "Border," "Judge Mujrim," "Bhai," "Qahar," "Vinashak," and "Hu Tu Tu." He was one of the highest-paid Bollywood actors in the 1990s. From the early 2000s, he appeared in multi-starrers across genres. He also played negative roles in films such as "Dhadkan," "Jaani Dushman," "Karz," "Khel – No Ordinary Game," "Baaz: A Bird in Danger," "Main Hoon Na," "Rudraksh," "Cash," "No Problem," "Enemmy," "A Gentleman," "Race 4," "Hera Pheri 3," "Welcome To The Jungle," and "Soorya."
Along with Mukesh Chhabra, Suniel Shetty started an online casting company called F...the Couch (FTC). He is the captain of the Mumbai Heroes cricket team in the Celebrity Cricket League and owns the restaurants Mischief Dining Bar and Club H2O in Mumbai. He has also served as a host for India's fitness reality shows "Biggest Loser Jeetega" and "India's Asli Champion Hai Dam?"
Shetty has received several awards throughout his career, including the Filmfare Award for Best Villain in 2001 for "Dhadkan" and the Best Actor Award at the South Asian International Film Festival in 2009 for his role in "Red Alert." He has also ventured into entrepreneurship, with investments in the online health and fitness startup Fittr and owning luxury furniture and home lifestyle store R House.
In his personal life, Suniel Shetty is married to Mana Shetty (née Monisha Kadri) since 1991. Mana is a businesswoman, designer, and social activist. The couple has two children, daughter Athiya Shetty and son Ahan Shetty, who have both made their acting debuts. Athiya starred in the film "Hero" (2015), while Ahan appeared in the film "Tadap" (2021). Suniel Shetty holds a black belt in kickboxing and is involved in various business ventures, including clothing boutiques and restaurants specializing in Udupi cuisine.
