Bollywood Male Actor
Sooraj Pancholi, born on November 9, 1990, is an Indian actor known for his work in Hindi-language films. He is the son of Bollywood actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab. Pancholi made his acting debut in 2015 with the romantic action film "Hero," for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Newcomer in 2016.
Before stepping into acting, Sooraj worked as an assistant director on films like "Guzaarish" and "Ek Tha Tiger." After his successful debut in "Hero," he appeared in the film "Satellite Shankar" in 2019, portraying the role of a soldier. He has also been cast in the upcoming Indian dance film "Time to Dance." In addition to his film roles, Sooraj has appeared in music videos such as "GF BF" (2016) and "Dim Dim Lights" (2019).
Sooraj Pancholi's personal life has been marred by controversy. He was arrested in 2013 after actress Jiah Khan, with whom he was in a relationship, died by suicide. Jiah's suicide note mentioned their strained relationship as a contributing factor to her decision. In 2018, Pancholi was formally charged with abetting the suicide. However, he denied any involvement in her death, stating that he was being made a scapegoat. Jiah's family believed that Sooraj was responsible for their daughter's death.
After a ten-year court battle, in April 2023, Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted by a CBI Special Court due to a lack of evidence. Following the verdict, Sooraj expressed his gratitude on Instagram, stating that the truth always wins. Jiah Khan's mother, in response, mentioned that she plans to move to a high court regarding the verdict.
