Alankrita Shrivastava is an Indian screenwriter, director, and producer known for her work in the film industry. She was born in New Delhi and later moved to Dehra Dun, Uttarakhand, where she attended Welham Girls' School. She completed her education at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi and went on to study filmmaking at the A.J.K. Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia.
Shrivastava began her career as an associate director for filmmaker Prakash Jha, working on films like "Gangaajal," "Apaharan," "Loknayak," "Dil Dosti," "Khoya Khoya Chand," and "Raajneeti." In 2011, she made her directorial debut with the film "Turning 30," which received mixed reviews.
However, Shrivastava gained critical acclaim for her second directorial venture, "Lipstick Under My Burkha." She not only directed the film but also wrote its script. "Lipstick Under My Burkha" premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival in October 2016 and was later screened at the Mumbai Film Festival and the Miami International Film Festival in 2017. The film faced initial challenges in obtaining a release in India due to objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding its sexual content and language. However, after appealing to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) and making some modifications, the film received an A certificate and was released in July 2017 to positive reviews.
Alankrita Shrivastava's work has earned her recognition and accolades, including the Grand Prix at the Créteil International Women's Film Festival and a nomination for a Filmfare Award. She is known for addressing women's issues and exploring feminist themes in her films.
