Sukhbir Singh, often known as the "Prince of Bhangra," is an Indian singer renowned for his energetic and fusion-filled Bhangra music. Born in Bhogpur Jalandhar, Punjab, India, he later moved to Nairobi, Kenya, where he spent 20 years of his life. In 1991, Sukhbir began his recording career and then relocated to Dubai in 1992, where he has been based ever since.
Sukhbir's music incorporates a blend of Bhangra with influences from rap, techno, and reggae. He infuses traditional Bhangra instruments such as the dhol and dholak with contemporary sounds. His first album, "New Stylee," recorded in Dubai, garnered critical acclaim and won three categories at the 1996 Channel V Awards, including Best Debut Album, Best Male Vocalist, and Best Music Video for the song "Punjabi Munde." He followed up with the albums "Gal Ban Gayi" and "Hai Energy," with the former achieving Platinum status in 1997.
Another notable album by Sukhbir is "Dil Kare," featuring popular hits like the title song and "Nachle Soniye." The music video for the song "Girls Girls Girls" includes appearances by Indian actresses such as Prachi Desai, Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra, and Divya Chauhan. Sukhbir's music is known for its fusion of different musical styles, incorporating Spanish and Portuguese rhythms in the album "Oi Triesto," along with instruments like tablas, congos, guitars, and keyboards.
In addition to his solo work, Sukhbir has collaborated with various artists. He sang the song "Dil Laga Na" for the film Dhoom 2 and collaborated with Canadian band Josh. He also joined forces with Jassi Sidhu, Shin, DCS, and Taz, Stereo Nation, to record a song in response to the tsunami disaster.
Sukhbir has made occasional appearances in films, including a guest role in the 2012 Punjabi film "Pata Nahi Rabb Kehdeyan Rangan Ch Raazi" as himself. In recent years, he has returned to singing and released the album "Tere Naal Nachna." Notably, his track "Nachdi," featuring Arjun, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top Triller Global Charts in 2021. Sukhbir continues to entertain audiences with his vibrant Bhangra music and infectious energy.
