Yohani Diloka de Silva, born on July 30, 1993, is a multi-talented artist from Sri Lanka. She is known as a singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and YouTuber. Yohani initially started her music career as a YouTuber, gaining recognition for her rap cover of the song "Deviyange Bare." Her covers of various songs, showcasing her singing and rapping skills, earned her the title of "Rap Princess" in Sri Lanka. However, she gained significant global recognition and rose to prominence with her cover of the hit song "Manike Mage Hithe."
Yohani holds the distinction of being the first Sri Lankan female singer to amass over 3.60 million subscribers on YouTube. Her talent and popularity have garnered her a strong following, both in Sri Lanka and internationally.
Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Yohani is the daughter of Major General Prasanna de Silva, a former Army officer, and Dinithi de Silva, a former cabin crew member at Sri Lankan Airlines. She follows the Buddhist faith and has been practicing Buddhism since her early life. Yohani has a younger sister named Shavindri de Silva, who is currently pursuing a medical degree. Growing up, Yohani and her sister experienced life in various Army bases due to their father's military background.
Yohani's passion for music was nurtured from a young age, with her mother recognizing her talent and encouraging her to pursue it further. She was exposed to a variety of musical genres, as her parents listened to artists such as Bee Gees, Spice Girls, AR Rahman, and Elton John. Yohani completed her higher education in Logistics Management and Professional Accounting from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University before embarking on her music career. She also obtained a master's degree in accounting from CQUniversity Australia.
In March 2019, Yohani returned to Sri Lanka, marking a significant turning point in her music career. She joined Pettah Effect, a record label co-founded by Dilanjan, where she had the opportunity to work alongside young talent. Yohani's talent and popularity led to several opportunities, including being appointed as the Brand Ambassador for Prima Kottu Mee, a notable endorsement for her as an artist. In August 2020, Yohani signed with Red Bull Records, and her debut single "Aaye" premiered under the label. She continued to release new music, including collaborations such as "Sitha Dawuna" with Chamath Sangeeth in September 2020.
