Mayank Markande, born on 11 November 1997, is an Indian cricketer known for his impressive performances in domestic and franchise cricket.
Hailing from Patiala, Markande's cricketing journey started at Yadavindra Public School, where he played for the school's cricket team. He made his international debut for the India cricket team in February 2019. However, he first gained widespread attention during the IPL 2018 opening match when he took the wicket of the legendary MS Dhoni.
His domestic career began with Punjab in the 2017–18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, making his Twenty20 debut in January 2018. He was then bought by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction. Markande continued to shine, making his List A debut for Punjab in the 2017–18 Vijay Hazare Trophy and impressing with his performance. He also made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for his team in the tournament.
Markande's prowess didn't go unnoticed, as he was selected in India's team for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December 2018. Subsequently, he was named in India's T20I squad for their series against Australia in February 2019. He made his T20I debut for India against Australia on 24 February 2019.
In the IPL, Markande's talent was recognized by the Mumbai Indians, who bought him back in the 2022 auction. He was later acquired by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2023 IPL auction for Rs. 50 Lakh.
