Mayank Anurag Agarwal, born on 16 February 1991 in Bangalore, is an accomplished Indian cricketer known for his prowess as a right-handed top-order batter. He has been a prominent figure in both domestic and international cricket.
Agarwal's journey began with notable performances in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy and the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he emerged as India's leading run-scorer. He gained further recognition in the Karnataka Premier League and made his first-class debut for Karnataka.
His domestic achievements include scoring a triple century (304 not out) in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, and excelling in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which led to his acquisition by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. He consistently performed well across formats, earning accolades like the Madhavrao Scindia Award for the Highest Run-Scorer in the Ranji Trophy.
Agarwal's international journey began with his Test debut for India against Australia in December 2018, where he made a significant impact with his debut innings score of seventy-six runs. He continued to excel, achieving milestones like his maiden Test century against South Africa and back-to-back double centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa. He was also part of India's squads for the ODI and T20I formats.
In the IPL, Agarwal's performances garnered attention, and he was retained by the Punjab Kings for substantial amounts. In the 2023 IPL auction, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Off the field, Agarwal practices Vipassanā meditation and draws inspiration from "The Power of the Subconscious Mind." He married Aashita Sood, daughter of Praveen Sood, the Head of the Central Bureau of Investigation, and they welcomed their first child in December 2022.
