Arshdeep Singh, born on February 5, 1999, is a talented Indian cricketer known for his contributions as a left-arm medium-fast bowler and left-handed lower-order batter. He represents the India national cricket team as well as Punjab in domestic cricket and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Arshdeep's journey in international cricket began in July 2022 when he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against England. Notably, he bowled a maiden over on his debut, a feat achieved by only a few Indian bowlers in their T20I debuts.
Hailing from a Sikh family in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, Arshdeep's cricketing journey started with gully cricket and eventually led him to join a cricket academy in Chandigarh. He represented the Indian under-19 team that clinched victory in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and later progressed to the under-23 national side.
His domestic career saw him making significant contributions for Punjab's under-23 team and his impressive performances earned him a spot in the Punjab Kings squad for the IPL. He made his mark as a promising player during the 2019 IPL season, emerging as the team's second-highest wicket-taker and attracting attention as a future star.
Arshdeep's progress continued with selections in India's squads for various tournaments. He participated in the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh, and he was included as a net bowler for India's tour of Sri Lanka in 2021. Due to COVID-19-related issues, he joined India's main squad for the T20I matches in Sri Lanka.
His international career gained momentum in 2022, as he earned a spot in India's ODI and T20I squads for the England and West Indies tours. His T20I debut against England was marked by an impressive performance, including a maiden over on debut. He further showcased his bowling prowess by taking seven wickets in five T20Is against West Indies.
Arshdeep's exceptional performances led to his inclusion in India's squad for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, where he emerged as the team's leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in six matches. His impactful performances continued in ODIs as well, making his ODI debut against New Zealand and participating in both ODI and T20I matches during the tour.
