Male Cricketer
Suresh Raina, born on November 27, 1986, is a former Indian international cricketer known for his aggressive left-handed batting and occasional off-spin bowling. He played for the Indian cricket team and often served as the stand-in captain in the absence of the main captain. Raina represented Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the domestic cricket circuit and captained the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was also the vice-captain of the Chennai Super Kings.
Raina achieved several milestones in his cricketing career. He is the second-youngest player to captain the Indian cricket team and was part of India's victorious campaigns in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Raina is the first Indian batsman to score a century in all three formats of international cricket. He is known for his fielding prowess and was recognized as one of the best fielders during his time with the Indian team.
In the IPL, Raina had successful stints with various franchises, including Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions. He was consistently among the top performers in the league, known for his crucial contributions with both bat and ball.
Raina announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on August 15, 2020, shortly after his teammate Mahendra Singh Dhoni's retirement. He later announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, including IPL and domestic cricket, on September 6, 2022.
Throughout his career, Raina had to contend with a weakness against short-pitched deliveries, which was often exploited by opposition teams. He had a successful limited-overs career and made significant contributions to India's white-ball successes.
Off the field, Raina has a strong personal story. He hails from a Kashmiri Pandit family and was born in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh. He trained at the Guru Gobind Singh sports college and went on to marry Priyanka in 2015, with whom he has two children.
