Ravi Varman is an Indian cinematographer, filmmaker, producer, and writer known for his work in Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi films. He is recognized for his realistic and poetic framing style, which has earned him critical acclaim in the industry.
Ravi Varman was born in a village in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, India. He began his career as an assistant to renowned cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran. He initially worked in Malayalam films for three years before venturing into Bollywood with the film "Yeh Dil" in 2003. He then worked on the Telugu film "Jai" and received more offers in Hindi cinema, including films like "Armaan," "Bee Busthar," "Ramji Londonwale," and "Phir Milenge." He has also collaborated with filmmaker Mani Ratnam on a project.
In 2002, Ravi Varman made his entry into Tamil cinema with the film "Five Star," directed by Susi Ganeshan. He continued to work as a cinematographer with renowned Tamil directors such as S. Shankar in "Anniyan," Gautham Vasudev Menon in "Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu," K. S. Ravikumar in "Dasavathaaram," and Prabhu Deva in "Villu."
Apart from his cinematography work, Ravi Varman has also directed a Tamil romantic film titled "Moscowin Kavery" and filmed the music video for the song "Bird Flu" by British Tamil songwriter M.I.A.
