Cinematography
Rajamani Velraj is a talented Indian cinematographer, director, and writer known for his work primarily in Tamil and Hindi cinema. He has gained recognition for his exceptional camera work in films such as "Asuran," "Aadukalam," "Vada Chennai," "Kadaikutty Singam," and "Komban." In addition to his cinematography, Velraj has also directed the films "Velaiilla Pattadhari" and "Thanga Magan."
Born in a village called Kootthiyar Kundu near Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Velraj completed his education at PKN Boys Higher Secondary School in Tirumangalam and Madurai Sourastra College.
Early in his career, Velraj worked as an assistant to renowned cinematographer Tirru on various Tamil films. It was actor Dhanush who recommended Velraj for his next film, "Polladhavan," directed by Vetrimaaran, after working together in "Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram." Velraj's exceptional cinematography in "Polladhavan" earned him the Vijay Award for Best Cinematographer in 2008. He continued collaborating with Vetrimaaran on films like "Aadukalam" and their most recent project, "Viduthalai Part 1."
Velraj made his directorial debut with the film "Velaiilla Pattadhari," featuring Dhanush and Amala Paul, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film was a tremendous success and attained a cult following. In 2015, he directed his second film, "Thanga Magan."
