Rajeev Ravi is a prominent Indian cinematographer, director, and producer hailing from Kochi, Kerala. He is renowned for his exceptional work in both Hindi and Malayalam cinema. Ravi started his career in the film industry by assisting renowned cinematographer Santosh Thundiyil on the Malayalam film "Pranayavarnangal" in 1998 after graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 1997.
Ravi made his debut as a cinematographer with the film "Chandni Bar" in 2001. Initially, he stepped in as a replacement for the original cinematographer Venu due to date clashes, and he was launched by producer R. Mohan. The film, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, marked his entry into the industry.
Rajeev Ravi is best known for his collaboration with director Anurag Kashyap. Together, they have worked on several commercial and art films in Hindi cinema. Their notable works include "Dev.D," for which Ravi won the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematography in 2010. In 2013, he received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for his work in "Liar's Dice," which was directed by his wife, Geetu Mohandas.
In addition to his cinematography career, Rajeev Ravi has also ventured into directing. He made his directorial debut with the Malayalam film "Annayum Rasoolum" in 2013. His second directorial venture, "Njan Steve Lopez," was released in 2014. He further directed the film "Kammatipaadam," starring Dulquer Salman, which was released in May 2016.
On a personal note, Rajeev Ravi is married to Malayalam film actress and director Geetu Mohandas. The couple has a daughter named Aradhana. Ravi holds a diploma in cinematography from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, which laid the foundation for his successful career in the film industry.
