Television Female Actor
Sarita Joshi (née Bhosle) is an Indian actress known for her work in Gujarati and Marathi theatre, as well as in television and films. She was born on October 17, 1941 (exact citation needed), in Pune, but grew up in Vadodara. Joshi started acting on stage at a young age, along with her sister Padmarani, to help support their family. She later joined the Indian National Theatre Gujarati, where she met her future husband Pravin Joshi.
Joshi made her television debut in the 1980s with the series "Titliyan" directed by Nadira Babbar. She went on to appear in numerous TV series, including "Hasratein" on Zee TV. However, she gained widespread recognition for her role as Godavari Thakkar, the matriarch, in the popular Star Plus series "Baa Bahoo Aur Baby" (2005-2010). Her portrayal of Baa received critical acclaim and made her a household name.
In addition to her television work, Sarita Joshi has also appeared in films. She played supporting roles in movies such as "Kanyadaan" (1968), "Pyar Hi Pyar" (1969), "Guru" (2007), and "Dasvidaniya" (2008). She also appeared in the crossover film "Bollywood Beats" in the United States.
Joshi has received several accolades for her contribution to the arts. In 1988, she was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting in Gujarati by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. In 2020, she was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, by the Government of India.
Sarita Joshi continues to be active in the entertainment industry. She is currently seen in the Sony Sab TV show "Pushpa Impossible" playing the character of Radha Limaye, also known as Radha Tai/Kaku. Joshi has a deep love for theatre and considers it her first love, stating that performing on stage brings her immense joy.
