Jayam Ravi, born as Mohammed Ravi on September 10, 1980, is an Indian actor known for his work in Tamil cinema. He is the son of veteran film editor A. Mohan. Ravi started his career as a child artist in the film "Oru Thottil Sabadham" (1989), produced by his father. He has received several awards, including a Filmfare Award and three SIIMA Awards.
After the success of the film "Jayam," which prompted the title to become a prefix to his stage name, Ravi continued to collaborate with his brother, director Mohan Raja, for other films such as "M. Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi" (2004), "Unakkum Enakkum" (2006), "Santhosh Subramaniam" (2008), and "Thani Oruvan" (2015).
Ravi was born in Tirumangalam, Madurai, and his father is a Tamil Rowther Muslim. His brother Mohan Raja is a film director, and his sister Roja is a dentist. Ravi completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Chennai and studied Visual Communication at Loyola College. He trained in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai and worked as an assistant director to Suresh Krishna for the film "Aalavandhan" (2001).
Ravi made his acting debut in the film "Jayam" (2003), a remake of the Telugu film of the same name. His performance received praise, and he gained popularity in the industry. He went on to star in films like "M. Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi" (2004), "Daas" (2005), "Unakkum Enakkum" (2006), and "Thani Oruvan" (2015). Many of these films were directed by his brother Mohan Raja.
