Sunidhi Chauhan is an Indian playback singer known for her versatility. She was born on 14 August 1983 in Delhi, India. Chauhan began performing at a young age and made her career debut at the age of 13 in the film Shastra (1996). She gained recognition after winning the singing reality show Meri Awaz Suno and recorded the song "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" from Mast (1999), which won her the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.
Chauhan had several breakthrough moments in her career. In 2000, she received a Filmfare nomination for the song "Mehboob Mere" from Fiza. Her song "Dhoom Machale" from Dhoom (2004) earned her another Filmfare nomination. She received further nominations for songs like "Kaisi Paheli" and "Deedar De" from Parineeta and Dus (both in 2005). In 2006, she won her first Filmfare award for the song "Beedi" from Omkara and received two more nominations.
Chauhan continued to deliver popular songs, including the title track of Aaja Nachle (2007) and "Sajnaaji Vaari." She received her twelfth Filmfare nomination for the song "Chor Bazaari" from Love Aaj Kal (2009) and won her second Filmfare award for the item song "Sheila Ki Jawani" (2010). She also made her international singing debut with an alternate version of Enrique Iglesias' song "Heartbeat."
Besides her successful playback singing career, Chauhan has appeared as a judge on various television reality shows and has featured in music videos. She has been involved in charitable work and social causes. Chauhan has been listed multiple times in Forbes Celebrity 100 of India from 2012 to 2015.
