Sudha Murty, born on August 19, 1950, in Shiggaon, Haveri, Karnataka, India, is an accomplished individual with a diverse career. She hails from a Deshastha Madhwa Brahmin family. Sudha Murty completed her graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology (now known as KLE Technological University). She pursued her post-graduation in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science, where she received a gold medal presented by the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Sudha Murty's career took an unconventional turn when she wrote a postcard to the Chairman of TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO) expressing her concerns about gender bias in the company. Impressed by her initiative, she was interviewed and immediately hired, becoming the first female engineer at TELCO. Initially, she served as a Development Engineer in Pune and later worked in Mumbai and Jamshedpur. She also gained experience as a Senior Systems Analyst with the Walchand Group of Industries in Pune.
