Motivational Speaker
Shiv Khera is indeed an Indian author, activist, and motivational speaker, best known for his book "You Can Win." He has also been involved in various social and political activities.
In his early life, Khera was born into a family that operated coal mines, but those mines were eventually nationalized by the Indian government. Before becoming a motivational speaker, he had a diverse range of occupations, including working as a car washer, a life insurance agent, and a franchise operator. While in the United States, Khera attended a lecture by Norman Vincent Peale, which had a profound impact on him, and he claims to follow Peale's motivational teachings.
However, Khera has faced allegations of plagiarism. Amrit Lal, a retired Indian civil servant, accused Khera of directly lifting content from his book "India Enough Is Enough" for Khera's book "When Freedom Is Not Free," published eight years later. Lal also claimed that Khera used numerous anecdotes, jokes, and quotes without proper attribution in his other books. Khera defended himself by stating that he took inspiration and notes from various sources and couldn't keep track of all of them. An out-of-court settlement was eventually reached, with Khera reportedly paying an undisclosed sum of money, which Lal intended to donate to the Missionaries of Charity.
Khera's activism includes founding the Country First Foundation, an organization focused on promoting freedom through education and justice. He also ran as an independent candidate in the South Delhi constituency during the 2004 Indian general elections, although he did not achieve success. In 2008, he established the Bharatiya Rashtravadi Samanata Party. During the 2014 elections in India, Khera supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and campaigned for Lal Krishna Advani, a senior member of the party. He has also filed several public interest lawsuits in the Indian Supreme Court and contested the 2009 general election in India on an anti-corruption platform, albeit unsuccessfully.
Furthermore, Khera participated as a speaker in the Bhagavad Gita Summit held in Dallas, Texas, from December 10th to 14th, 2021. The summit took place during Gita Jayanti and featured other notable personalities such as Swami Mukundananda Ji, Dr. Menas Kafatos, Kiran Bedi, Brahmacharini Gloria Arieira, among others.
