Vijay Shankar, born on January 26, 1991, is an Indian cricketer known for his all-round abilities. He plays for the Tamil Nadu state cricket team and has also been a part of various Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
In his domestic career, Shankar has represented Tamil Nadu and achieved notable performances. He played crucial roles in the knockout stage of the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy, winning Man of the Match awards. He also led Tamil Nadu to victories in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. His performances caught the attention of selectors, and he has been part of India's limited-overs squads.
In the IPL, he has played for teams like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and Gujarat Titans. His highest IPL score came while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored an unbeaten 63 against Gujarat Lions in 2017. He was later picked by the Gujarat Titans in the 2022 IPL auction.
Shankar made his international debut in the Twenty20 International (T20I) format in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy against Sri Lanka. He had a notable performance in that series and was named Player of the Match in one of the matches. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia in January 2019. He was then selected for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he made headlines by taking a wicket on the very first ball of his World Cup debut match.
