Santosh Sivan is a highly acclaimed Indian cinematographer, film director, producer, and actor. He has worked extensively in Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. Santosh completed his education at the Film and Television Institute of India and has an impressive filmography with 55 feature films and 50 documentaries to his credit.
Considered one of India's finest cinematographers, Santosh has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. He has won twelve National Film Awards, including five for Best Feature Film Cinematography. He has also received six Filmfare Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
In addition to his work as a cinematographer, Santosh has also made a mark as a director. He won his first National Award as a director in 1988 for the film "Story of Tiblu." His film "Halo" received recognition at the 43rd National Film Awards, winning in the categories of Best Children's Film and Best Sound.
Santosh Sivan's achievements extend beyond India. He became the first cinematographer from the Asia-Pacific region to become a member of the American Society of Cinematographers. His works have been honored with numerous international awards, totaling 21 as of 2014.
In recognition of his significant contributions to Indian cinema, Santosh Sivan was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors, in 2014.
