Tinu Anand, born as Virender Raj Anand on 12 October 1945, is an Indian actor, director, writer, and producer in Hindi cinema, as well as a few Telugu and Tamil films. He comes from a film-oriented family, being the son of veteran writer Inder Raj Anand, the brother of producer Bittu Anand, and the uncle of director Siddharth Anand. Tinu Anand attended Mayo College in India for his schooling. He is married to Shahnaz, the daughter of veteran actor Agha.
Despite his father's initial reluctance for him to enter the film industry, Tinu Anand pursued his passion for filmmaking. His father wanted him to choose a different path, believing that the film industry was not suitable for his sons. However, after realizing Tinu's determination, his father sent him to the Satyajit Ray School, where he learned the art of filmmaking under the guidance of renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Tinu Anand had initially been offered a role in K. Abbas' film "Saat Hindustani," but he had to give it up when he received an opportunity to work with Satyajit Ray. As a result, the role went to Amitabh Bachchan, who was just starting his acting career at the time.
Tinu Anand also worked as an assistant director to Satyajit Ray for five years, assisting him in several Bengali films, including "Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne" (1969), "Aranyer Din Ratri" (1970), "Pratidwandi" (1970), "Seemabaddha" (1971), and "Ashani Sanket" (1973).
In his acting career, Tinu Anand played a significant role in the film "Ghajini" in 2008. In interviews, he has shared anecdotes from his early days in the industry and has praised Amitabh Bachchan for his generosity and support.
