Arjun Mathur is a British-Indian actor known for his work in Bollywood films, web series, and television serials. Born on October 18, 1981, in London, England, Mathur grew up between New Delhi and Mumbai, India. His father is a hotelier, and he has an older brother and a younger sister. Sadly, his mother passed away in a car accident when he was thirteen.
Mathur attended various schools in New Delhi, Mumbai, and St Albans, Hertfordshire. Instead of pursuing a college degree, he decided to train as an actor at Barry John's Institute and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Prior to his acting career, he worked as an Assistant Director on notable Indian films like "Bunty Aur Babli" and "Rang De Basanti."
His breakthrough came when he was discovered by Mira Nair and Farhan Akhtar simultaneously through their short films for the "Aids Jaago" project, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007. Mathur then appeared in mainstream Indian films such as "Luck By Chance," "My Name Is Khan," and "Ankur Arora Murder Case," as well as critically acclaimed independent films like "Barah Aana," "Coffee Bloom," and the National Award-winning "I Am." He also received a Best Actor nomination at the New York Indian Film Festival in 2013 for his role in the English language film "Fireflies."
Mathur has made appearances in television commercials and served as a brand ambassador for the Indian lifestyle brand Godrej from 2013 to 2016. He was also part of Channel 4's British drama series "Indian Summers." In 2018, he impressed both audiences and critics with his performance in the Netflix original film "Brij Mohan Amar Rahe."
