She started her career in 2001 with the film "Tere Liye," which starred Arjun Punj, but it failed to perform well at the box office. In 2002, she had a brief role in the film "Na Tum Jaano Na Hum." However, her breakthrough role came when she joined Ekta Kapoor's iconic show "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" as Ganga, a character she portrayed from 2002 until the end of the show in 2008. She also appeared in shows like "Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat" and played the lead role in "Lavanya."

In 2005, Saklani participated in the first season of the dance reality show "Nach Baliye" with her husband Apurva. She has also acted in shows like "Kkusum" and "Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin." In 2009, she took part in Imagine TV's reality show "Pati Patni Aur Woh." In 2012, she participated in "Survivor India." In 2013, along with her husband Apurva, she appeared as a contestant in the seventh season of Colors TV's popular reality show "Bigg Boss." She was evicted after surviving in the house for five weeks.

In her personal life, Shilpa Saklani married television and film actor Apurva Agnihotri in 2004.
