Gauri was born on September 16, 1977, in Jammu, India. She began her career as a model and appeared in several commercials. In 1999, she made her acting debut with the television series Noorjahan. She then went on to star in several other television series, including Kutumb (2000), Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2000-2004), and Special Squad (2003).

Gauri has won several awards for her acting, including the STAR Parivaar Award for Favourite Bahu, the STAR Parivaar Award for Favourite Jodi, the STAR Parivaar Award for Favourite Hottest Jodi, the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and the STAR Parivaar Award for Favourite Yogya Bahu.

In 2004, Gauri married actor Hiten Tejwani. The couple has two sons, Nevaan and Katya.
