Sumanth Kumar Yarlagadda, popularly known as Sumanth, is an Indian actor known for his work in Telugu cinema. Born on February 9, 1975, in Hyderabad, India, he comes from a prominent film family as the eldest grandson of the legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Sumanth is also a partner in Annapurna Studios.
Sumanth has acted in several notable films throughout his career. Some of his noteworthy movies include "Prema Katha" (1999), "Yuvakudu" (2000), "Satyam" (2003), "Gowri" (2004), "Godavari" (2006), "Madhumasam" (2008), "Golconda High School" (2011), "Malli Raava" (2017), and "Sita Ramam" (2022).
Raised in India by his maternal grandparents, Sumanth was adopted by them at the request of his grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who wanted to experience the joys of fatherhood. His father, Surendra Yarlagadda, is a former film producer, and his sister, Supriya Yarlagadda, is the executive director of Annapurna Studios. Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni is his maternal uncle, and he has cousins Naga Chaitanya, Akhil Akkineni, and Sushanth, who are also actors.
Sumanth completed his schooling at the Hyderabad Public School and then pursued engineering studies in Michigan before transferring to Columbia College Chicago, where he graduated with a B.A. in Film Studies in 1997.
Sumanth made his acting debut as a lead actor in the romantic film "Prema Katha" directed by Ram Gopal Varma in 1999. Although the film did not achieve commercial success, it received critical acclaim and won several awards. His breakthrough role came in the 2003 film "Satyam," where he portrayed a ghost-writer aspiring to become a lyricist. The movie was both a commercial success and earned Sumanth critical praise for his performance.
