Jayasurya, born on August 31, 1978, is a multi-talented Indian actor who primarily works in Malayalam cinema. Apart from acting, he has also ventured into film distribution, sponsorship, modeling, film production, playback singing, and impressionism. With a career spanning over two decades, Jayasurya has appeared in more than 100 films and has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances.
He started his career as a mimicry artist and later hosted television shows on Malayalam channels. Jayasurya made his acting debut with a small role in the film "Pathram" in 1999. However, his breakthrough came in 2002 when he portrayed a mute character in the film "Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan."
During the 2000s, Jayasurya gained popularity for his comedic roles in films like "Swapnakkoodu" (2003), "Pulival Kalyanam" (2003), "Chathikkatha Chanthu" (2004), "Chocolate" (2007), and "Gulumaal" (2009). He also showcased his versatility by playing villainous roles in movies like "Classmates" (2006), "Arabikkatha" (2007), and "Kangaroo" (2007).
In the 2010s, Jayasurya received critical acclaim for his performances in films such as "Cocktail" (2010), "Janapriyan" (2011), "Beautiful" (2011), "Trivandrum Lodge" (2012), "Apothecary" (2014), "Iyobinte Pusthakam" (2014), "Lukka Chuppi" (2015), "Su.. Su... Sudhi Vathmeekam" (2015), and "Captain" (2018). He also gained popularity for his comedic roles in movies like "Punyalan Agarbattis" (2013), "Amar Akbar Anthony" (2015), "Aadu" (2015), and its sequel "Aadu 2" (2017). Jayasurya made his debut as a film producer with "Punyalan Agarbattis."
His notable achievements include winning the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 62nd Filmfare Awards South for his performance in "Apothecary." In 2016, he received the Special Jury Award at the 46th Kerala State Film Awards and the Special Mention at the 63rd National Film Awards for his roles in "Su.. Su... Sudhi Vathmeekam" and "Lukka Chuppi." Jayasurya won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performances in "Captain" and "Njan Marykutty" in 2018, and for "Vellam" in 2020.
Jayasurya was born in Tripunithura, Kochi, Kerala, to parents Mani and Thankam. He completed his schooling at St. George U. P. School, Chambakkara, and Government Sanskrit High School, Tripunithura. He pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree at All Saints College, Ernakulam. Jayasurya married his long-time girlfriend Saritha on January 25, 2004, and they have two children.
In addition to his acting career, Jayasurya has continued to explore different roles and genres in the film industry. His recent projects include the investigative thriller "John Luther" (2022) and the film "Eesho." He is also set to appear in the upcoming film "Enthaada
