Kumar Sanu, whose real name is Kedarnath Bhattacharya, is a renowned Indian playback singer known for his melodious voice in Bollywood. He was born on October 20, 1957. Kumar Sanu is often referred to as the "King of Melody" in Bollywood and is famous for singing numerous super-hit Hindi songs. He was one of the most successful playback singers during the 1990s era of Bollywood.
In addition to Hindi, Kumar Sanu has sung in various other languages including Bengali, Marathi, Nepali, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Manipuri, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Punjabi, Odia, Chhattisgarhi, Urdu, Pali, English, and his native language Bengali, both in West Bengal and Bangladesh.
Kumar Sanu holds the record for winning five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer from 1991 to 1995. He has also been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records since 1993 for recording the maximum number of songs in a single day.
Sanu began his playback career as Sanu Bhattacharya in 1984. He made his debut in the Bangladeshi film "Teen Kanya" in 1986, directed by Shibli Sadiq. In 1989, Kumar Sanu was introduced to Kalyanji by Jagjit Singh at Vimal Bunglow in Mumbai. Following their suggestion, he changed his name from "Sanu Bhattacharya" to "Kumar Sanu" as a tribute to his idol, the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. Sanu then moved to Mumbai, where he received an opportunity to sing in the film "Jaadugar" by Kalyanji-Anandji.
