Khesari Lal Yadav, born as Shatrughan Kumar Yadav on 15 March 1986, is a multi-talented Indian actor, singer, dancer, and model known primarily for his work in Bhojpuri cinema. He is also referred to by the initials KLY. With a career spanning over a decade, Khesari has appeared in more than 70 films, including one Bollywood film, and has performed as a vocalist in over 5000 songs. He has worked not only in Bhojpuri but also in Hindi, Awadhi, and Haryanvi languages.
Born in Chhapra, Bihar, Khesari Yadav began his singing career in the late 2000s and gained recognition with his acting debut in the film Saajan Chale Sasural in 2011. He made his Bollywood debut as a singer in 2014 with the song "AK-47" from the film Koyelaanchal. He has received several awards for his contributions to Bhojpuri cinema, including the Best Popular Actor award at the 2016 Bhojpuri Film Awards. He also won the Best Actor (Male) and Best Playback Singer (Male) awards at the Sabrang Film Awards in 2018 for his role in the film Mehandi Laga Ke Rakhna. In 2019, he won four more awards for his performance in the film Sangharsh.
In 2019, Khesari Yadav participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 13, which further increased his popularity. He made his mark in the Bollywood music scene with his third Bollywood song, "Ladki Patana," released by Sony Music India in 2020. He followed it up with "Tere Mere Darmiyaan" in 2021. He collaborated with Badshah to recreate the song "Pani Pani" in the Bhojpuri language. In 2022, he ventured into screenwriting and made his debut as a screenwriter with the film Aashiqui. Two of his songs were featured in YouTube's list of Top Indian songs of 2022, showcasing his growing influence and popularity.
