PlayBack Singer Female
Alisha Chinai, born on March 18, 1965, is an Indian pop singer known for her contributions to the Indi-pop genre and her playback singing in Hindi cinema. She rose to fame in the 1990s and was widely recognized as the 'Queen of Indipop.' Alisha made her singing debut with the album "Jadoo" in 1985, and her career took off from there.
Initially, Alisha's albums like "Babydoll," "Aah... Alisha!," "Madonna," "Kamasutra," and "Made in India" garnered significant attention. She collaborated with veteran music director Bappi Lahiri in the 1980s and delivered numerous disco hits in films such as "Adventures of Tarzan," "Dance Dance," "Commando," "Guru," "Love Love Love," and more. Alisha's playback singing career in Bollywood took off under the guidance of Bappi Lahiri, and she lent her voice to several leading actresses of that era.
During the 1990s, Alisha expanded her repertoire by collaborating with various music directors, including Anu Malik, Anand–Milind, Rajesh Roshan, and Nadeem-Shravan. She delivered several Bollywood hit songs like "Dhak Dhak Dhak," "Jalta Hai Badan," "Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge," "Chaa Raha Hain Pyaar Ka Nasha," "Roundhe," "Sona Sona Roop Hai," "Mouje Mein," "De Diya," "Ruk Ruk Ruk," and the controversial "Sexy Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole."
In 1994, Alisha recorded the album "Bombay Girl" with Lesle Lewis, which featured the hit song "De De." Simultaneously, she released numerous pop albums and gained immense popularity with her 1995 album titled "Made in India," composed by Biddu. The album featured iconic songs like "Aaja Mere Dil Mein," "Ek Baar Do Baar," "Sun O Meri Dhadkan," "Tu Kahan," "Ooh La La," "Tu Jo Mila," "Dhokha Diya Hai Re Tune Mere Dil," and "Lover Girl." "Made in India" became one of the highest-selling pop albums of its time and propelled Alisha to stardom. After its success, she decided to focus solely on private pop albums and moved away from playback singing.
However, Alisha's subsequent releases didn't achieve the same level of success. During this period, she faced controversy when she accused Anu Malik, with whom she had recorded numerous hit songs, of molesting her. As a result, they didn't work together for several years but eventually reunited in 2003 for the film "Ishq Vishk."
Alisha made a comeback to film music with the song "Oh My Darling" in the Yash Raj film "Mujhse Dosti Karoge!" From 2000 to 2009, she collaborated with composers like Himesh Reshammiya, Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, and Pritam. She also served as a judge on shows like Indian Idol 3 and Zee TV's Star Ya Rockstar alongside Anu Malik.
In 2005, Alisha received critical acclaim for her song "Kajra Re" from the film "Bunty Aur Babli," which won her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Her contribution to the music industry has solidified her status as a renowned and versatile singer.
