Rekha Bhardwaj, born on 24 January 1964, is a renowned Indian singer and live performer. She has been honored with two Filmfare Awards and one National Award for her exceptional contributions to the music industry. While she primarily sings in Hindi, she has also showcased her talent in other languages such as Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi, and Malayalam.
Born in Delhi, Rekha Bhardwaj is one of six siblings, with five sisters and a brother. In 1991, she tied the knot with Vishal Bhardwaj, a prominent film director, composer, and playback singer. Their journey together began in 1984 when they first crossed paths while preparing for the annual function of Hindu College in New Delhi.
Rekha Bhardwaj's musical training started at home under the guidance of her older sister. Later, she received formal training from Pandit Amarnath, further honing her skills and enriching her musical prowess.
Her debut album, titled 'Ishqa Ishqa,' was released in 2002, a decade after its inception. The album's success brought her recognition and paved the way for career-defining songs such as "Namak Ishq Ka" in the 2006 film "Omkara," composed by her husband Vishal Bhardwaj. She also gained widespread acclaim for her rendition of "Sasural Genda Phool," a Chhattisgarhi folk song recreated by A.R. Rahman, in the 2009 film "Delhi-6."
