After her boarding school education in Ooty, she attended Mount Carmel Convent Anglo-Indian Girls High School in Kollam. At the age of 17, she married Surenda Nath and moved to Calcutta, hoping for a settled married life. However, things didn't go as planned, and she had to adapt to a modest life in a small one-bedroom apartment. Ambika and Surenda have a daughter named Kavitha. Later, she married Rakesh (aka Rocky) in 1993, but due to his addiction issues, she eventually left him.
Ambika Pillai's career began as a hair stylist, and she later expanded her expertise to makeup. She initially started her salon called Visions by Ambika and eventually transformed it into her eponymous brand, Ambika Pillai. Today, Ambika Pillai is a well-recognized and respected name in the beauty industry.
Her salons are located in various cities, including South Extension, Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Malviya Nagar, and Model Town in Delhi, as well as Gurgaon in Haryana. She also has branches in Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh and Kochi and Trivandrum in Kerala.
