Prakash Belawadi is a multi-faceted Indian personality known for his extensive involvement in various fields including theatre, film direction, television, journalism, teaching, and activism. Born in Bangalore, he comes from a family deeply rooted in the world of theatre. His father, Belawadi Nanjundaiah Narayan, and mother, Bhargavi Narayan, were both prominent figures in Kannada theatre and cinema.
Belawadi's educational journey led him to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering from University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in 1983. However, his true passion lay in the arts, and he carved out a significant career in theatre, film, and media.
He made his mark in the film industry with his debut film "Stumble," which he wrote and directed. The film achieved great recognition, winning the National Award for Best Film in the English language in 2003. His contributions to culture and the arts were acknowledged when he was conferred the 'Pratibha Bhushan' by the Government of Karnataka in 2003 and the Karnataka Nataka Academy Award in 2011-12 for his significant role in English and Kannada theatre.
Beyond his accomplishments on the national stage, Belawadi has actively engaged with the international arts community. He has participated in numerous seminars, conferences, and festivals in India and abroad. His global engagements include the Beyond Bollywood conference at the Gothenburg International Film Festival, the Performing Arts Market conference in Seoul, and the Theatertreffen theatre festival in Berlin, among others.
Belawadi's dedication extends beyond his creative work. He has also been a motivational speaker at events and TEDx conferences, inspiring others with his insights. He is a mentor for the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival and has contributed significantly to theatre and cultural exchange as a faculty member for film courses in countries like Sweden and Turkey.
