Cinematography
Girish Gangadharan ISC, born on March 8th, 1985, is an Indian cinematographer renowned for his work in Malayalam and Tamil films. He gained significant recognition for his cinematography in the 2019 film "Jallikkattu," directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, which was India's official entry to the Oscars that year. For his exceptional work in the film, Girish received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography.
Girish Gangadharan has also worked on Tamil-language blockbusters such as "Sarkar" and "Vikram," further contributing to his reputation in the industry.
He completed his cinematography course at the Government Film and Television Institute, Bengaluru in 2008. After his post-graduation, he started working as an assistant to cinematographer Sameer Thahir. Girish made his independent cinematographer debut in 2013 with Sameer Thahir's directorial debut, "Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi." Since then, he has worked on several notable films, including "Guppy" (2016), "Angamaly Diaries" (2017), "Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil" (2018), and "Jallikkattu" (2019).
One of Girish's notable achievements was the 11-minute single long take in the climax of "Angamaly Diaries," which brought him national acclaim. He employed a similar technique of capturing long takes in "Jallikkattu" as well.
His talent and contribution to the industry were acknowledged when he won the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for "Guppy" in 2016. Furthermore, in 2021, he received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography for his exceptional work in "Jallikkattu."
