Choreographer
Farah Khan is an Indian film director, choreographer, writer, film producer, actress, and dancer who works predominantly in Hindi films. She has choreographed dance routines for more than a hundred songs in over 80 films, winning six Filmfare Awards for Best Choreography and the National Film Award for Best Choreography. In addition, she has worked on Tamil films and also in international projects, such as Marigold: An Adventure in India, Monsoon Wedding, Bombay Dreams and the Chinese films Perhaps Love and Kung Fu Yoga, earning Tony Award and Golden Horse Award nominations.
Khan was born in Mumbai, India, on January 9, 1965. She is the daughter of film producer Kamran Khan and actress Menaka Irani. Khan began her career as a dancer, appearing in films such as Mr. India (1987) and Pardes (1997). She made her debut as a choreographer in the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992). Khan's choreography quickly gained her recognition, and she went on to choreograph some of the most iconic dance numbers in Hindi cinema, including "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Dil Se (1997), "Ek Pal Ka Jeena" from Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), and "Sheila Ki Jawani" from Om Shanti Om (2007).
In addition to her work as a choreographer, Khan has also directed four films: Main Hoon Na (2004), Om Shanti Om (2007), Tees Maar Khan (2010), and Happy New Year (2014). All four films were commercial successes, and Khan was praised for her directorial debut.
