Nihal Sarin, born on July 13, 2004, is an Indian chess grandmaster and one of the most promising young talents in the world of chess. Known as a chess prodigy, Nihal has achieved remarkable feats at a young age and continues to make significant strides in his chess career.
Nihal gained international recognition when he surpassed an Elo rating of 2600 at the age of 14 in 2018. This accomplishment made him the third youngest player in history to achieve such a rating at that time, showcasing his exceptional skills and potential in the game.
As a junior player, Nihal has achieved notable successes. In 2014, he became the World Under-10 champion, highlighting his exceptional talent at a young age. The following year, in 2015, he tied for first place in the World Under-12 championship, narrowly missing out on the gold medal and settling for the silver medal based on tiebreaks. These achievements underscore Nihal's early dominance in his age category and his ability to compete at the highest level of junior chess.
In 2020, Nihal added more accomplishments to his resume. He was part of the Indian team that won the Gold Medal in the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad, showcasing his ability to contribute to team success on the international stage.
