Yashpal Sharma is an Indian actor primarily known for his work in Hindi-language films and theatre. He has appeared in several notable films such as "Lagaan" (2001), "Gangaajal" (2003), "Ab Tak Chhappan" (2004), "Apaharan" (2005), "Lakshyam" (2007), "Singh Is Kinng" (2008), "Aarakshan" (2011), "Rowdy Rathore" (2012), and "Ayothi" (2023).
In addition to films, Yashpal Sharma has also made appearances on television. He played the role of Don Rana in the popular TV sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" (2008–present) and portrayed the character of Kuwar Singh in Zee TV's "Mera Naam Karegi Roshan." He has also been actively involved in theatre and has appeared in live plays.
Yashpal Sharma was born and raised in Hisar, Haryana, in a lower-middle-class family. He had a passion for acting from a young age and actively participated in Ramlila performances during the Dasara festivals. He graduated from the National School of Drama in New Delhi in 1994 and later joined the National School of Drama Repertory Company in Delhi before moving to Mumbai in 1997.
His breakthrough role came in Govind Nihlani's film "Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa" (1998) where he acted alongside Jaya Bachchan and Nandita Das. However, it was his role in the Academy Award-nominated film "Lagaan" (2001) that brought him widespread recognition. He has since worked with renowned filmmakers like Shyam Benegal and Prakash Jha and continues to be active in both films and stage acting in Mumbai.
Yashpal Sharma has also been involved in theatre productions, including Rage productions' bilingual play "One on One" and the play "Lakeerein," written by Gulzar and directed by Salim Arif, where he acted opposite Lubna Salim.
He made his television debut with "Mera Naam Karegi Roshan" on Zee TV in 2010 and had a cameo role in "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" in 2011. In 2014, he returned to television as Bhagwandas in the lead role of "Neeli Chhatri Waale" on Zee TV.
Yashpal Sharma has also ventured into film direction. He directed a biopic on Haryanvi poet Pandit Lakhmi Chand, for which he also wrote the script. Additionally, he made a brief appearance in the short documentary "The Facebook Generation," directed by Sahil Bhardwaj.
