Piyush Mishra, born as Priyakant Sharma on January 13, 1963, is a multi-talented Indian artist known for his work as an actor, singer, lyricist, playwright, musician, and screenwriter.
He grew up in Gwalior and developed an interest in singing, painting, and acting during his school days. Despite his family's insistence on focusing on academics, Piyush was drawn towards theater. He joined the National School of Drama in Delhi and graduated in 1986. During his time there, he discovered his talent for music composition and acting, with a breakthrough role in "Hamlet" under the direction of German director Fritz Bennewitz.
Piyush Mishra began his career as a theater actor in Delhi and later moved to Mumbai in 2002. He gained critical acclaim for his acting in films like "Maqbool" (2003) and "Gangs of Wasseypur" (2012). As a lyricist and singer, he is known for songs like "Arre Ruk Ja Re Bandeh" in "Black Friday" (2004), "Aarambh Hai Prachand" in "Gulaal" (2009), "Ik Bagal" in "Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1" (2012), and "Husna" in MTV Coke Studio (2012).
Besides acting and music, Piyush Mishra has been actively involved in theater throughout his career. He co-founded the theater group Act One with N. K. Sharma and directed several plays, including the acclaimed "Gagan Damama Bajiyo" based on revolutionary Bhagat Singh. He has also performed one-man shows and collaborated with Asmita Theatre Group, writing lyrics for their plays.
In the film industry, he started as a screenwriter and lyricist for films like "The Legend of Bhagat Singh" (2001) and "Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar" (2002). His acting roles in films like "Gulaal" and "Rockstar" gained him widespread recognition. Piyush Mishra has continuously showcased his versatility and creative prowess, leaving a significant impact on Indian cinema and theater.
