Swaroop Sampat won the Miss India title in 1979 and later represented India at the Miss Universe pageant. She made her acting debut in Bollywood with the film "Naram Garam" in 1981, where she played the lead role opposite Amol Palekar. She went on to appear in films like "Krodhi" (1981), "Yeh Desh" (1984), and "Saath Saath" (1982).
While Swaroop had a notable career in films, she achieved significant popularity through her work on Indian television. She became a household name with her portrayal of the character "Renu" in the hit television sitcom "Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi" (1984).
