Srikanth began his badminton journey at a young age and showed promise early on. He made his mark in the junior circuit, winning several titles and gaining recognition for his talent. In 2013, he made his breakthrough in senior badminton by reaching the finals of the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold, where he finished as the runner-up.
His real breakthrough came in 2014 when he won his first Super Series title at the China Open, defeating legendary player Lin Dan in the final. This victory propelled him into the spotlight and established him as one of the top players in the world. Srikanth continued his success in 2015, clinching four more Super Series titles in his remarkable season.
In 2017, Srikanth had a standout year, winning a total of four Super Series titles, including the Indonesia Open, Australian Open, Denmark Open, and French Open. He became the first Indian male badminton player to achieve such a feat in a single season. His performances earned him the prestigious Padma Shri award, one of India's highest civilian honors.
